Default Volvo stops…electric fault?

V50 with about 220,000 miles. 2006. Just stops while driving….sit a few minutes and starts. Could it be colder temps? Battery? Connection somewhere? Have had some electric problems before. What to check? Clean battery cables maybe?

First thing - ALWAYS check the battery voltage when something like this happens. It's dead easy, and will likely save you lots of time and money in the long run. A cheap multimeter costs almost nothing, is easy to use and get.

There's not (nearly) enough info in the original post to give any meaningful advice otherwise. Is the starter engaging and spinning normally after the engine dies? Any unusual dash lights on? Check engine lights (if so, plug in an OBD reader and get the codes, or have an auto parts store person do it, usually for free).

Yes, I own several voltmeters and can measure volts and amp. Car okay today, battery resting was about 12.2 v. We are getting cooler here in Wyoming. Nighttime lows teens, single digits. Last year car would not start at below 5 degrees F, My son who is driving mentioned the right turn signal has been acting up, not working. I will take off the battery junction bar on positive + post and clean deeply. Also same with cleaning negative. Post. We replaced both headlight assemblies last year after the deer hit, so I will likely clean connectors there. He said the electrics and engine just stopped. After he put her back in park, she started up and running for now. Another thing is we have replaced the alternator about a year ago, also replaced that serpentine belt.

original owner, this car has been heavy on maintenance, Two windshields, steering rack, broken oil pan twice, rear hatch struts and of course the usual tires, oil changes, wipers, etc.
