Default 02 V-70 intermitent will not crank

I have a 02 V-70 that has had a starting problem that is intermitent. Sometime the car will not crank but I have power to everything in the car. I just checked the fuse panel and relays in the engine compartment and made sure everything was seated and then the car started. I'm thinking it could be coincidence that it started. How can I check the car out other than just using it and hope I don't get stuck somewhere?

I have an 03 V 70 and when we experienced that issue it was the fuel pump. The car was eventually towed to a dealer and the car of course started fine for them and they could not diagnose the issue when the fuel pump was working.

Default Three suggestions

Hello, A cranking engine failing to start for want of fuel is one thing. The failure to crank at all, the original post, is quite another. mkem should check the battery's condition-how much power it has- as well as the battery's posts for cleanliness, at the positive cable terminal "under the flap" on the engine bay's left (driver's side US, passenger's side UK) and at the starter itself. A 2002 has had more than enough time to develop crud. Try rowing the gear range selector a few times as the PNP switch can get gummy and not act as designed. Do a search on the disabler antenna (part of the ignition switch). It's not an expensive part and they do go. Check the first two first though. Kira

Default 02 V-70 intermitent will not crank

Kira,
I did buy a new battery last weekend and the car ran fine for one day. I will look at you other suggestions. I also have a problem with the ignition key locking up on occasion and not letting me turn the key....could it be related as well?

Does anyone have a part number to the antenna ring? I can't find it on any website.

The antenna ring is part #8621509.

Sold here:

eEuroparts - Ignition Immobilizer - # 8621509

On this site, it says you need a software download.
http://www.swedishautoparts.com/V70/...and-parts.html

Doesn't seem like it should, because it's just reading the code in the key.

If the key does not want to turn, could be the ignition switch.
Or, as already mentioned above, the PNP switch.
Or might be the interlock with the shifter.

Changed out the antenna ring. When I pulled the old one it did not light up. The new one light up as soon as it was plugged in. The car started before and after I changed the part. Can I assume it is fixed since the old one did not light up?
