Default 100 amp alternator in place of an 80?

Hello all, great forum you have here.

I am replacing the alternator in our '98 V70 AWD. I have a 100 amp Bosch out of the same model.

Is it safe to replace the original 80 amp with a 100 amp?

Thanks for any and all help,

James

Should be fine. A 100 Amp alternator just gives you more electricity available when you need it, like if you had an aftermarket high current amplifier that needs a little more juice than normal. It's extra voltage, or not enough voltage that causes damage to happen to electronics. The Voltage regulator governs this.

I used to have a 140 Amp Alternator in my Chevy Cavalier, and a 195 Amp Alternator in my Grand Am.
