Default 1998 V70 T5

I have been searching long and hard for a good deal, mostly due to money issues.

I may have found the car, even though it's not a XC or the new style (2001+) I think I might do it.

It has about 50k miles and is going for about $7400.

It's green, but at least it is that dark forest type green, I can live with that.

I'll update this as we progress.

So excited!

That's a good car to get. They are not that easy to find either. I want a 98 V70 T5 with a five speed. Real hard to find. I don't care much for the green either, but with only 50K I think I would go for it.

That's exactly what I was thinking.

I'm also thinking I recall it did have traction control too, which should help in the winter.

As far as the green, if it wasn't dark green I'd pass big time.

Maybe I'll post some pics soon.

Now I'm not sure.

I found a blue 99 V70 XC for about $6500, sure it has 85k miles but now I'm not sure what to do.

GET THE T5. Stay away from 99's and from what I heard the Cross Country's give quite a few problems. I live in Ohio where we get snow, and I have never been stuck with a FWD Volvo.

Update: I got it!

I couldn't get bigger pics from the dealer site, as it had some stupid pic viewer that wouldn't work right.

We love it, we had to wait hours for the process of everything but we got the car!

So far so good too, 54k miles, great response from the turbo. I do hear an annoying squeaking sound from the rear though while driving.
Could that be the shocks?

Make sure the timing belt has been changed within the last five years. If not, do it NOW. Called for every 70K miles of five years whichever comes first.

CONGRATULAITONS!!!

Thanks, we're loving it for sure.

I'll check on the timing belt, but I doubt it.

That squeak in the rear is annoying.

I noticed on the way home late last night that while most of the lights work the radio lights (most of them) are out. I can see the 1, 2, 3 presets but not the rest. Would it make sense to just find a radio at a junkyard?

Okay now I've noticed a few things:

[*]Squeaking in rear that I've mentioned already, possibly shocks. Would going to Midas be okay?[*]The passenger side speaker in the front door seems to go out often, I'm thinking a wire isn't a good connection? Either way if it needs a new speaker I imagine I could do the job.[*]Wow, wind noise is horrible with the driver window down just a little bit, is there anything I can do?

So far though I'm LOVING it! The ride is wonderful, the power is great (except from a dead stop).

Also I set the DRL to come on only with the lights off, and to stay off with the parking lights on.

I have the interior lights set to not come on, so when I open the door there is still the entry light by the floor. I love that too!

ALSO, I know K&N air filters are generally frowned on since they allow bad particles through, but what about the whole air intake kit? Has anyone done it?
Was it easy to install?
Did you notice any increase?

I don't trust Midas to do anything to be honest. I do let NTB here in Columbus do some of my suspension work though just because I have kind of gotten to know them and they stand behind their work. Really the best thing to do is do it yourself or take it to somebody who specializes in Volvo's or European cars. The first thing to do though is find out what is causing the noise.

As far as the lights in the radio, they can be changed but it is kind of a pain. Either ipdusa or fcpgrotten sells a kit that has the little lights included. I have taken mine apart and bought little bulbs at Radio Shack and replaced them myself. It was tedious but not hard.

Yeah I'm going to ask around on the shocks and whether that's the reason for the squeak.

The radio I'm not worried about, and did find out I can get the bulbs at radio shack from another Volvo site

Thanks for the help

I have a 1998 V70 T5 and absolutely LOVE IT!!! Mine also has a squeak in the back but it is not the shocks. If the cargo cover is not open it sqweeks. I just took it out and put some tape between the plastic pieces. No more squeak. Mine also has a door speaker that is intermitent and half of the preset numbers on the radio dont light up. Must be a T5 thing!!! I havent had time to take the door panel off to check the speaker connection but maybe next week.
