I don't know the reputation of this site, but a bunch of searching got me here: http://au.geocities.com/ozbrick850/obd2codes.html
P0171
System too Lean (Bank 1)

Don't know if that's the same as "171" - I'm just trying to be helpful.

Thanks, my mechanic confirmed this but his OBD cannot tell which O2 sensor is faulty. Any idea if these are expensive to replace? Should I just do both?

I found a wide range of prices depending on if you want a generic one or a direct fit. http://www.innerauto.com/store/produ...=oxygen_sensor

$30-$100+

I've never replaced any on a Volvo, but on another car, it was fairly simple. I have a friend who got into some trouble because he ran the car with spark plugs going bad so the exhaust was coming out real hot and melting (not the right word) the sensor to the exhaust so he had some difficulty removing it and ended up taking it to a shop.

Anyway, I'll let tech or someone else more knowledgable than me give you a better answer.
