98 V70 Front Right Strut or clanking noise
Hello all.
98 v70 turbo 2wd.
loud front pass side noise when I hit bumps. sounds like when your control arm bushing has dissapeared or when someone changed the strut and forgot to tight the strut top plate to the car all the way.
This is a metal to metal type of clanking sound.
I checked all bushings and sway bar ened links and all is good. I think the problem is the strut bearing (located at the top of the strut assembly)
the front struts were replaced 3 years ago but im sure they only changed the strut cartridge not the whole deal.
This is just an educated guess so if anyone has any different experience please let me know.
Anything to watch for when taking the front struts off this car?
Thanks

RE: 98 V70 Front Right Strut or clanking noise
It's most likely your stabilizer/sway barlink. I just had my drivers side 2000 V70 link replaced. I had the same symptons you describe...in fact I too though it was the strut bushing/mount. Apparently the links are prone to getting week and start clanking like it was a strut problem. The good think is replacing trhe link is a lot easier and less costly than removing the strut assembly. The link cost me $40.00...clunking is gone.
Hope this helps.

RE: 98 V70 Front Right Strut or clanking noise
Hello. I'm getting the same "clunk-clunk" noise in both sides of the sway bar links. I saw that they have two little ball joints with plastic caps behind them. Are they something I can tighten up by turning the caps or hammering them or do I have to replace the parts to have the problem solved? Thanks
