Clanking noise when turning or braking

Default Clanking noise when turning or braking
I have a 99 Volvo V70XC wagon.It has a weird clanking noise when you turn left or right or when braking in a straight line. It is loud enough that I am afraid something is going to fly out of there.It sounds like the pinging of a driveshaft but why would it make noise when turning?It sounds like it is coming from under the car near the tail of the transmission. Thanks
