Default 98 V70 power window issue

I have a 98" V70 and the windows don't work anymore. I went to the fuse box as suggested by my Hayne's manual and swapped out the 20 amp circuit breaker with another. No luck. There is slight scorching on the fuse socket area but no real damage. After I shut off the car and wait, then turn the car back on again the windows work for about 2 seconds then stop. I've had the car for about 6 months or so and this is a new problem.

After visiting the junkyard and seeing that of the three 70 series Volvos (2 96's and one 97') that I saw -they all had 30 amp breakers. I'm not sure exactly what rating of breaker I should have in slot #37. The owners manual doesn't say, neither does my Haynes manual.

I want to know my options before I have a mechanic tell me I need a new muffler or something lame. Any ideas?

thanks.

I have a 98 V70 that did the same thing. From what I recall during my troubleshooting, there is a relay that stops the voltage when there is a short. When you turn your car off, the relay resets, so your windows will work till they short out again and cause the relay to trip again. My driver side window controller is where the problem (short) was. You may need the same thing. I was able to get mine off of ebay. Much cheaper then the dealer. It has not given me any more trouble since I changed it around two years ago. I hope this helps.

Thanks demon. I'm a big fan of junkyards and will search for a window control unit. Mine has a bad rocker switch, where there is probably a short. Also I think the relay in question is a "J" relay. I know where to get one of these too.

Thanks a lot!

anyone know where this relay is for the windows?
My rear passenger window will not roll up.

I connected a Drill battery straight to the motor and it rolled up that way, but I am not sure where the fault could be in the window switches.

I have noticed that the windows are starting to roll up and down a lot slower than before.....any advice?

drivers side, under the hood, in the fuse box. remove the small rectangular lid held down by torx screws.
