ABS/Tracs problemon '97 V70R
Hello All,
recently put my V70R back on the road after replacing discs, calipers, pads etc all round, as well as a new exhaust and a general service.(it has just ended a very busy 15 months!)
Having had a problem with ABS/Tracs light coming on prior to this, and the code reader identifying there being a fault with the R/R ABS sensor, I replaced both rear sensors.
Nothing in life ever being simple of course, despite the new parts, the warning lights remained constantly on.
My mechanic (ex. Volvo) had half expected this, having seen similar problems many times before and suggested replacing the ABS ecu.
Refusing to pay Volvo almost £500 for a new unit, a reconditioned one was duly purchased and fitted.
Now the fun begins.........................................des pite re-setting/fault finding, the lights if staying out on starting the car, soon come on again.
Code reading still trying to blame the (new) rear sensors.
We have now replaced the ecu unit three times, still the same problem, UNTIL we started to spend a considerable amount of time when plugging in, and tightening the multi-pin plug connector to the said ecu.
This for a time seems to fix the problem, on lighting up all the panel lights prior to starting the engine, the ABS/Tracs lights extinguish after a couple of seconds as they should!
However, at any time, or after random re-starts, the lights can sometimes come back on again!!
If they do and I stop the car, restart it and they stay on, if i accelerate briskly, they go out again!
Goes without saying but I'll say it anyway.................
This is driving me nutttttttssssssss!!
Lol!!
Has anyone suffered anything similar??
I really had expected the problem to be resolved with the replacement ABS ecu!!
Have had the car for almost five years, it has hardly cost anything to run, with regular oil changes of Moby1 every 10k, and replacement pads as and when needed(often as the car still flies when driven hard! Lol!) and other parts as and when required. It is still fun to see the startled looks on the faces of drivers of more "exotic" shall we say, machinery, as this silver V70R roars by effortlessly..........
I would be grateful for any advice on this problem and look forward to catching up with some of the members on here soon!
Cheers,
Ken.

It might be about time to inspect the wiring.
Does it still say the R/R when it comes back on again?
Did you clean the ring on the R/R hub when you replaced the sensor?

[align=left]Hi Tech,
thanks for the speedy reply!
Yep everything was cleaned as parts were put on and re-assembled.
Code reader still saying Rear sensors (now both, originally it was Right rear) at fault.
I was dreading the thought of checking the wiring.............. any ideas as to a likely area?
Cables etc. from sensors under the car seem fine.
Cheers,
Ken

I would check from the ABS module back.Usually there isn't wiring problems with them. Are you sure you got the right module when they sent you the rebuilt one?

I am having a simular problem. My 1999 V70 ABS/tracs light will come on and kick off the cruse control at any time and then go out at any time. So far shop cannot get them to come on to get the codes.
