Advice - Timing Belt
I bought my mom an '01 V70 with 94,000 on it. I didn't even think about the timing belt issue. Mom is (an incredibly active) 90 years old. She drives about 3500 miles a year. So, she won't hit the magic 105,000 for 3 years. Can I just forget about the timing belt?
What a lucky Mom.
There are so many reasons to do the belt and associated components and not one reason to just let it ride. Ten years is a good service life for those components. You may be able to skip the water pump, but you won't know till you get there. I'm still trying to find a way to jack up the driver's seat another inch more to get a better view over the hood.
Give Mom a hug and take care of her wagon.

Well, it might make it, but it's kind of like insurance - seems like a waste of money until you have an accident. Personally, I'd get it done ASAP at an independent shop that's familiar with Volvos. It's not *that* expensive there, and paying your $400 or whatever for a timing belt job a little earlier sure beats paying $6,000 for an engine swap because you tried to pay it a little later.
