A/C compressor cycling rapidly

A/C compressor cycling rapidly
My 2003 V70 2.4 T seems to cool well enough but when I'm stopped with the engine idling, I can feel (and hear) the A/C compressor starting and then cutting off rapidly and repeatedly - perhaps 5-7 seconds off, 4-5 seconds on and repeat. Normal or time to see the dealer (still under warranty) - When my home A/C started to do this, it was a low pressure control responding to a low refrigerant condition.

RE: A/C compressor cycling rapidly
I was thinking that exact thing, probably a faulty pressure switch telling the compressor to kick on. I think the low pressure switch monitors the pressure ahead of the compressor until it builds up to a certain threshold at which point it sends the signal to the compressor. If that switch was faulty it might read higher pressures than actually exist and cause rapid cycling.
That's just a guess - I'd wait for a more educated/experienced response before doing anything.

RE: A/C compressor cycling rapidly
I have a 98 V70 with a slow A/C leak. When it starts getting low on refridgerant, the clutch beging to cycle more frequently and I notice the cabin fan runs faster, longer when it is in auto. From the searching I did and responses to my questions, this is a common problem with 850s and V70s. The evaporators (the auto equivelent of the home "A" coil) are known to leak. Have your pressure checked.
