Default car died! please help! urgent!

Hey there,
I have a 99 v70 that I bought used last November. Since purchasing, I have had the radiator, head gasket, and a/c compressor replaced. I was told that I would need to have the timing belt replaced soon...at 198,000 miles...its VERY close to that but hasn't been replaced yet. Car has been running superbly but today while driving, a loud rumbling noise came from the front of the car and then it immediately stopped running. After about 20 minutes I was able to restart the engine. I drove it about 1/2 a mile (again, drove like normal) and then it immediately died again. I'm desperately hoping I didn't totally cook the engine if it is the timing belt. This just happened a couple of hours ago so I haven't had it looked at yet. Any thoughts on what it may be? The battery was replaced a month ago so I know it isn't something as simple as that. Thanks in advance.

Default Dead Car

At this point I can tell you that it is not the timing belt, if that had broken when you heard the 1st kaboom under the hood, the engine would not have started and gone down the road. I wish Icould tell you more, but at this point I don't have enough information.

Default I don't believe it is the timing belt...

But it could be any of a number of things. Did you notice anything else when it happened? Could you have worn out the serpentine belt (accessory) tensioner or idler bearing and ripped up the belt? It drives the alternator, power steering and a/c. Did you look under the hood? Any bits of rubber laying around?
