I have an 82 240 Turbo Wagon.
On my way home from getting Thai food tonight, it died while I was driving. Sounded fine, and then just died.
I tried several times to start it back up; the starter sounds fine, the engine starts to get going and then makes a whiny metallic pinging noise and dies.
It's definitely not an electrical problem, and it has fuel.
Any ideas?

 

Does it have oil in it?

Also maybe the timing belt tensioner pulley is seizing up.
