Default Close To Buying A 2001 V70 2.4T

hi-
1st off i wanted to say that im a newbie here.we have owned american vehicles all our lives and we are looking into buying a volvo to be our family car.its a 2001 V70 2.4T wagon w/ 42,000 miles.took 3 volvos out for a test drive yeaterday,1st one being a V70 wagon,2nd being a cross country, last being theV70 2.4T.out of all 3 we especially liked the V70 2.4T,why?probably because i liked the esponse it had when given the gas.im still being educated on these cars, and the salesman had said that the cross countrys are turbo also, but being AWD you wont get the response as you would with the V70 2.4T becaue these are front wheel drive.we are very excited about getting this car,and since its our 1st volvo,i wanted to see if anyone had an opinion about this possible purchase?we are also thinking about getting the 3rd seat put in down the road.any additional info would be great.if this deal works out,im sure ill be on this board often.hope to hear from someone.

Tech hopefully will respond....................you might learn something you won't want to hear concerning the electronic throttle body.

Yes the throttle body will go bad on you.If you can look for a older one 1998 or a 2003 or newer. The 2003 and newer have a different setup that doesn't go bad very much.

The 2001 Volvo had a throttle body made by a Italian firm................quality was not paramont!!! You can hopefully extend the life of the unit by having it cleaned every 20000 miles or so. When it does fail, it generally fails without notice! Volvo charges $1,000.00 plus to replace it. If you replace the unit yourself, you will then have to have your auto towed to Volvo so that the computer can be activated to your new unit. 2002 and Volvo had Bosch design a throttle body and the failure rate declined.

This is what I know so far:

The part that appears to fail is the Electronic Throttle Module (ETM). It's the "fly by wire" electronic throttle as apposed to a cable attached to your accelerator (gas) pedal. It afflicts 1999, 2000 and 2001 models, see another post on this by Don ?. Cheers ...... Nick
