I have an '02 V70 in which the driver door control panel seems completely to have failed.

It can not operate any of the windows, and the child lock seems to be 'on' all the time, but the light is *not* on to indicate the child lock is engaged.

The door lock does not work when the alarm/remote is used to lock the doors.

our local volvo dealer wants 800usd to fix this - which is too steep for me. (400usd for the switch module)

which seems doable to me. but I also found here a thread where someone said if the unit is replaced then it _should_ be programmed to the car.

I'm wondering:

a) a good resource for finding a replacement cheap near seattle, wa usa
b) can i hack something together to do the programming if its needed? i'm an experienced embedded programmer and good with soldering iron so i can make simple interface if needed
c) if (as in the link above) its a mechanical failure has anyone had luck in replacing only the mechanics of this switch to get it working again?


i'm probably going to at least take this thing out and give it a try - so any other words of advice are appreciated too..

I had the same problem on my V70 about two years ago. I tried taking it apart and checked the connections and found a short causing a relay to open. I took it all apart to see if I could fix it but gave up. I ended up buying one off of ebay - and so far no problems.

 

you didn't have to do any programming or anything?

and do you by chance know the part number?
