Electrical issue V70R 1998
Hi All,
I have pulled the ABS computer out of my 98 V70R AWD and am preparing to send it in for diagnosis and repair. When I got the air cleaner assembly removed I found a gray plastic plug with a couple of wires taped together. I suspect this "modification" was to shut down the ABS/TRAC lights in the dash. The plug has a slip on type clip which was to mount it someplace near the Air Cleaner ***'y (I guess). I'm not talking about the plug on the side of the air cleaner which came off easily.
There's a solid white wire attached to a yellow/black stripe and an orange wire attached to a yellow with a red stripe. Both the yellow wires then lead in a rubber fitting that is on the transmission. I've included a picture to sort of show what I'm talking about. The gray connector is just about in the center of the picture. Any idea what I'm looking at here?

RE: Electrical issue V70R 1998
Here's a couple more pics. The two striped yellow wires go into the transmission, the other wires I can't tell where they are supposed to be going. The speedo in the car works if you do a code reset. I am sort of thinking these wires were cut and connected to each other to shut down the ABS light. Really do not know for sure. The plug was right under the air cleaner box.
Thanks for your help. I'll send two more pics in seperate messages.

RE: Electrical issue V70R 1998
I don't know, I do get unpullable codes on the car. The ABS/TRAC computer is pulled and being sent out for analysis. I know ABS is no good since the wheels lock-up. I am thinking this connector might have something to do with the cruise control? I've ordered a set of Vadis on E-bay only to find out after that the wiring diagrams are "extra". Ordering that too. After the ABS comes back from the re-builder I think I'm just going to have to bite the bullet and bring the car to Volvo. I've got an April 15th deadline to get the car running so I'm severely under the gun here. Lots of work left to do but I will have the indy take care of the heavy stuff like the Timing belt and exhaust system and maybe brakes. This is definitely my very last e-bay car. A real disaster.

Hopefully some clarification of my issue and better pics.
It has an automatic transmission, cable throttle with HT leads, no Coil on plug, there is a distrbutor on the engine.
On Closer examination, here's what I've uncovered.
The female side of the plug is definitely part of the loom. It leads way down the back of the engine. The male side of the plug looks like it exists solely to plug the two yellow wires into this female plug. The male plug looks like it may have been just spliced in to perhaps to replace the original possibly broken plug. The colours of the leads coming off the male plug have no relavance since it really does look like it was just spliced in so there'd be a plug there. The splice was to provide for a way to plug the two yellow stripped wires into the fanmale plug and thus into the loom. The two yellow wires I keep mentioning are directly below the brake master cylinder. They go into a rubber fitting that is on the transmission casing. I've taken a couple of additional photos and am trying to clear them up for posting. This whole thing might have been a legitimate repair if somewhat sloppy wiring. I ordered the Vadis and some wiring digrams from a guy in England. Should have them in a couple of weeks. Looks like I am going to get very familiar with this car.
