Ignition Key- 2000 V70
I am having one hell of a time getting my key out of the ignition switch! Sometimes I will have to turn it back about 10 times before it will release. I got it out once by pushing the shift override button but then I could't lock it. My wife is now telling me the button on the shift **** doesn't come all the way out when placed in park and she has been pressing that a few times. Should I spray a little WD-40 on that button? Is that the problem? Also the Service light came on, we're about at 60,000 miles. I'll try holding the trip meter button as other logs have suggested. Thanks Guys
I have the same problem. It has nothing to do with the key/ignition it's the **** on the shift lever. Your wife is on to something there. I just depress/wiggle the button with my fingers after I put it in park, you will feel it "pop" into position. It's no big deal at all, and once you get the motion down, it becomes routine. I had a habit of playing with that button while driving, that might have aggravated the issue.
Unless your car is frequently driven by different people, it's not worth getting it fixed. My father borrowed my car one day and couldn't figure out how to get the key out, so he cracked open the window a bit, locked the doors and left the keys in the ignition while he shopped. Insurance companies do not like to pay if the car is stolen with the keys in it.
Please post if you solved the problem.
