Default Kickdown Cable Replacement PLEASE HELP!

Car is a 98 V70 T5. How do I deal with the end of gthe cable going into the firewall?
Do I need to get into the transmission's internals somehow? Remove the tranny pan?

The other end was a cinch...grrr.

THANKS in advance.

If you are installing a new cable just yank the old one out. But first remove it from the gas pedal.

It is a throttle cable not a kick down cable.

Also why 3 posts in 3 different places with the same question?

Got the cable detatched from the pedal, pulled the cable from the engine compartment, and out came a spring along with a plasic "retainer" that I cannot remove from the original.
The new part didn't come with the spring, or this retainer- any insight?
Has there been a redesign?

I'm almost home free.

Sorry about the duplicate posts. Tech, do you know what I'm referring to? Can I just install the new cable as is? I'm wondering if I got the right part.

Does the new one have finger looking things on the end where it would go into the firewall?

Usually the spring is hidden.

Default Update

No, nothing of that sort. It's as is the black plastic "bell"shaped piece fits INSIDE the firewall and the spring rests inside that piece. It is then compressed when the "bushing" is clipped into the firewall from the engine side. It seems that the black plastic piece forms a smooth "tunnel" through the sond insulation, if serving no other purpose.
In any event, I called several dealers and they told me the cable had been redesigned-new part number- and that some techs had experience with the new cables beging "different."
I wish someone else could chime in on this, so I could get confirmation...Perhaps I'll post a pic with the old and the new.

P.S. Unit clips to firewall inside engine compartment just fine. Car runs and drives great. Shifts are improved as well. I'm still concerned about the part discrepancy.

Thanks for your time.

p.s. Thw spring (which coils around the cable,) is part of the cable assembly. It cannot be removed without breaking the black plastic retainer.

I have replaced alot of them and not had the new design yet. Hopefully I will soon. If it is holding then you should be fine.
