Default leaving the dealer

I have a 2001 t5 wagon, 55K, warranty expired, and no extended warranty. I'm thinking of parting ways with the dealer, and taking the car to the guys who take care of my '92 740 Turbo. They are good generalists; my question is, is this a wise move? How much do I need the dealer? I value any input, thanks much.

Default RE: leaving the dealer

This I am writting is coming from someone that works at a Volvo Indipendant shop.
The Dealer will only be needed for Replacement of Certain parts that are electrical. They require a software download to make the parts work. All the servicing and other repairs can be done at the other shop as long as he Knows the cars good.
