Default little plastic vacuum hose?

so i was doing some maintenance on my car today, cleaning out TB/maf, and intake in general as well as changing oil and checking fluids. basically had the intake completely apart. there is a little black plastic vacuum hose that goes from the bottom of the airbox near the warm/cold air valve assembly to the top half of the box on the back side near one of the fuse holders. upon removing it the end was all dry rotted so it cracked in half. i taped the nipples off just to be on the safe side so un-filtered air wouldn't get in, but haven't had a chance to replace the hose. going to get another one tomorrow, but i really can't tell any difference on how the car runs without it. so i guess my question is, what is the purpose of that little hose?

thank you!

That hose helps move the valve for the hot/cold air.
Take a small rubber hose and go from the plastic hose to the air box and it is fixed.
