Default Is My Tranmission Overheating????

I am still having little ****les with my transmission. Its pretty good these days but if i'm driving around the city for too long I start to get a kind of tugging in all the gear changes again. I can smell when its about to start misbehaving. I'm not sure how to describe the smell. its just smellls like hot oil of some sort. If I open the bonnet (or hood, for the americans) for a couple of minutes its stops misbehaving. I think the sound proofing is trapping too much heat. Does this mean its my cooling system that playing up? Or should my transmission still be able to handle a bit of heat. I have Transmission Service Required and Emissions Service Required messages all the time. ABS and DSTC messages come on intermittnetly.

It might be getting hot but it should be able to handle the heat.

Is there any leaks on the car?

I think i've fixed all the leaks but I guess the smell might suggest otherwise. Just had the rear main(Is that the one between the motor and the tranny?) seal fixed and its behaving 100 times better. Would it have anything to do with the brakes? When I get the ABS and DSTC services messages, my shifts start to get a little late, not sure if its the throttle or the transmission but just feels less responsive.

Yes they could be connected. The car uses the ABS sensors to help figure the speed of the car.

Yes the Rear main seal is the one between the engine and trans.
