Default not starting

hello,
the other morning, out of the blue my 1998 xc wouldn't start. as it turns over it sounds like it is coughing. Is there a way to use starter fluid to kinda blow out the plugs?

I read on a different forum that by going full throttle it clears the plugs. No experience myself however and am not sure if they were discussing electronic throttle control cars or the prior generation. If you try it I don't see much risk, butperhaps another forum member can comment.

You can always shoot starter spray into the intake, but on these newer cars I'm clueless what will then happen!

That is usually done when the lifters collapse. You you hold the throttle all the way to the floor do it before turning the key on. That will disable the fuel going to the motor. That helps it crank over faster and start better. But that is usually on cars that have sat for days.

But it won't hurt to try it here as well.
