Default Oil Dipstick (and tube) replacement

It seems from searching that volvo has discontinued the old dipstick design (on a 98 V70 T5), and to replace the dipstick, one would also have to replace the tube. Have any of you done this? How much of a pain in the **** is it to replace the tube as well? Any how-to's?

Thanks

I have a 98 V70 as well and went through the same surprise when the finger pull loop on the oil dipstick broke (twice). Dealer wanted more than $50! I've now gotten use to pulling it out by the nub.

However I did remove the tube when I recently fixed the PCV system. There's one bolt holding it on underneath the intake manifold. 10mm maybe? Once that's out, the tube just pulls off.

I'd recommend cleaning the joint down at the bottom FIRST as there is a lot of grime there and you don't want any of that to fall into the crankcase.

It is a 12mm head, and mine required about a 24'' extension on the socket from underneath, and to the rear of any hoses, as well as a flex/swivel head on the extension...
