I dont have an answer for you but Im sure you will get one around here, I just have a suggestion after reading your post if your going to diy with things like that - get a haynes or chiltons on your vehicle, those books might cover those components or probaly atleast offer an exploded view so you can get an idea where they are at.

Default What year, make, model?

Some of the 1618 codes on my car were from the ABS unit under the master brake cylinder. There are other codes that came up too like P1633 P0722 and a lot of random warning lights on the dash

OH! Here we go again! the ETS light problem... this is a common fault on the v70, the ELECTONIC THROTTLE SYSTEM is so sensitive that it becomes a problem... you don't mention if the car has gone into limp mode? if it hasn't don't worry the mechinism requires a good clean out, mine does it occasionaly mainly after a long fast journey.... new ones are a small fortune and volvo made only.

Default What year

Hello njwandrew, What year is your V70 and how many miles are on it? IF your ETM is bad there's a company which rebuilds them for less than Volvo charges for a new one. XeMODeX is the name of the Canadian company. Vic Rocha rebuilds ABS units if that's your other problem. Kira

On my V70 the message panel shows Alarm Needs Service. it came on once a week,It showed yesterday ,after that the panel stopped working..
eg Door open. the panel lights but no messages, this morning when I entered the car in our heated garage it worked,When I left 12c. to the -1
outside, it quit again.Had the car washed yesterday could that have soaked the alarm modum in the RF.fender well and have caused this problem??Ed
