Throttle Body(software)NowTranny Problems,Coincidence?
I just purchased a 2001 V70 for my wife and I'm keeping the 99 V70 for myself... but a funny thing happened when I HAD to get the outstanding recall done on the throttle body... the transmission started acting up... like real bad.
I tried to talk the Service Clerk into just "saying" they performed the upgrade cause I didn't want to "fix" something that wasn't broken... he declined, and here I am now, with a dead car and a headache.
I remember when I had the upgrade to my 99's throttle body, the car ran worse than it did before too!
I do know that my motor mounts need replacing and have them on order... and I have read that sometimes that may be the cause of some transmission clunking, but I lost power while going up a hill and then the transmission clunked and all was fine again... well until the next stop light.
Has any one have any insight on this demon that is possesing my new Volvo? Or is my old V70 playing dirty tricks with a kewpie' doll that looks like our new Volvo?!?!?!

I presume your paperwork says only the R155 (recall 155) was done which is the throttle body update?
Back in 05/06 when lots of people were battling the ETM problem (right around the time R155 ETM software came out) I read some people suspected correlation between ETM and transmission. I didn't get a sense any one ever proved anything definitive. Don Wilson at vexed volvo put out a call to collect some statistics on this 2-3 years back. You might check with him.

There is also a transmission software update (TCM). If your car haven't gotten that, you should get it. The shift profile was changed significantly on my 01 V70 T5 on this update. They also turned off the stop neutral feature that is killing these transmissions.
And indeed, check your lower transmission torque mount bushing. Call dealer with your VIN to see if you have a potentially defective B4 servo cover and might want to flush the tranny fluid if not done in the last 30k miles. You can do transmission shifting adaptation as well (you can save money if dealer is willing to just reset it and let you drive the training pattern yourself). More info at the link below
