Default tranny slipping out of gear

Hey, anyone know what could be the problem, I've a 2001 v70, and once in a while, at low speeds, when accelerating, the car seems to go into neutral, rev a bit, then go back into gear.

Thanks

M.

Smile v70 tranny problems

I had the same problem. I replaced the transmission servo valve cover with a new one from IPD. My slipping problems went away after this. Also change the transmission fluid. Lastly, there is an ECU transmission update that the dealer can do. Good luck.

Could someone clarify this for me. You should check the transmission fluid after driving it for a while on a level surface. With the odd placement for the dipstick, the engine is to hot to reach down there and grab that stick. If you do get the dipstick out how to you read it. Mine is yellow with no writing on it?

I'm not yelling or lecturing, but there are many threads here on the 01 5 speed auto and the troubles owners have reported. Best idea: take it to a shop that knows Volvo transmissions and have fluid changed (the 3x method) and the servo probably replaced, and the mounts checked. Don't keep driving thinking it will get better. According to those who studied this problem at the school of hard knocks, it won't. A replacement transmission costs nearly what the car is worth. A junkyard transplant, while cheaper, may or may not solve the problem since you can't test drive it first.

Good luck. BTW, you can look at the color of the fluid with a cold engine. And check to see if it smells burnt, too.

you still have the "STOP NEUTRAL FEATURE" on your tranny. Take the car to the dealer ASAP for software update.

This might help with your problem, unless the tranny internals are already toast and if so youll need a new tranny.

I am so happy to find all this info here, folks; REALLY helpful! my tranny is doing the same as 244Delux, and I have a 2001 XC70 (practically a V70). the response from Joe777 will prove helpful when dealing my car's doctor.

I also had the same problem with my old 2002 XC70 (120k miles). I did the tranny flush with a oil conditioner and that seemed to help for +\- 10k miles. The problem did come back so I traded it in while I could and got an S40. I didn't want to put anymore $ into the wagon, I calculated over $6K of maintenance in just over 3 years.
