I am hoping someone here can help me. I bought a 2000 V70 wagon from a local dealer and had the trany die on me within the first coupel days of driving. He replaced the trany and so far so good besides a hard bang when shifting gears. The dealer said this would subside after it learned my driving style. After a week or so it did get better but after 3 weeks I still get a hard bang when shifting. sometimes it is worse than others. I can go several miles with no banging at all then it is starts banging again. It also doesnt seem to happen on hard acceleration or I just dont feel it. I just talked to the dealer and he wants to disconnect the battery and connect the two cables together to clear the CPU. Does this sound right or is this guy out there? Would clearin the CPU work? Does it need a software update? I thought he said it had a software update but I could be wrong.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I would try the battery thing first.
If that doesn't work see if software is avalible for it.

 

I just tried that and took the car for a ride. It shifted a little smoother with much lighter bangs. I guess I wil need to drive this for a week or so until I know for sure, right?

I have another question as a result of this. My stereo is now indicating CODE and I do not have the 4 digit code. I called the used car dealer and he was not aware of it either. Is there a universal code for these things?

Sorry should have mentioned it before.
You will need to get it from A Volvo Dealer. They will get it to you for free.
Or slide the radio out and see if anyone wrote it on the top of it.

Does the radio unlock so you can try another code in two hours regardless if the ignition is on or not?

 

No you have to leave the ignition in the first position for 2 hours or till it goes to code.
