Default trip computer switch

hi, i saw a trip computer switch on http://www.myswedishparts.com for our 1999 c70 LPT and was wondering if anyone knows how much it would cost to have the software for it activated by a dealer - or if it would work just by putting it in (here is hoping). when i shine a flashlight at the screen below the speedo i can see the mpg and all the other needed information displayed. also there is a plug - doing nothing - behind the switches where the trip computer switch would be.
thanks
fritz

Most dashes are wired for everything.
I believe it is only a matter of buying the trip computer and having it activated.
You might not even need to have software downloaded.
It might work if you hook it all up.

fritzlovesmary,

See this post: https://volvoforums.com/m_67469/tm.htm

It can be done on the 1998-2000 70 series cars, I know this for a fact. It can probably also be done on the later (maybe earlier as well?) 850's since they are very similar in design to the 70 series cars. The real drawback is the cost of it all. Most dealers have quoted me around 500 - 550 for the upgrade which has to be done by a Volvo dealer because they own the software used to make your car "aware" of the advanced computer functions. Basically, all 70 series come with it pre-installed but unless you selected it as an option when the car was bought, it wil not be activated.
