Default using oil

I have a 2000 V70 with around 110,000 miles on it. I have owned it for a year and don't know it's service history. It runs great, but I recently realized that it is using oil. I'm not sure how much yet but it was several quarts low when I checked it. The oil light had not come on. It is not leaking oil, and I don't see any black smoke. One thing I have noticed is that if I go downhill in 2nd gear, using the engine for drag at moderate rpm for a short distance it starts blowing out quite a bit of white looking smoke, but quits as soon as I get on level ground. I'm hoping this information might be an indicator of where the problem is. I assume it might be a turbo problem but I'm wondering where to start looking for the cause. I will be grateful for any advice.

I would check/service the vent system.

I called Groton to get a vent kit but they don't have one for the 2000 model; said it's a dealer item. The dealer says there isn't a kit, just separate pieces. Can you tell me what the critical parts are that I should order before I take things apart?

Get just the vent box if you have to get from the Dealer.
Well Vent box,sleeve and clamps.
Also make sure they give you the right ones. They are known to mess it up.

I forget off hand the ones you need.

The old school theory was when the engine pulled high vacumn ( going downhill with the throttle closed like you stated), and then you hit the throttle and there was smoke that the issue was with the valve seals. Other member more knowledgeable than myself have previously stated the valve seals "never" fail. Smoke on hard acceleration is a ring issue and can be determined with a compression check and then a 2nd check with a squirt of oil in the cylinder. A big increase tells the rings are bad. My experience with the 140 and P1800 engines will proof out using above methods, but I'm very new to these new engines as my beloved P1800ES with almost 400,000 miles only recently went to the junkyard.[X(]

Recently after changing motoroil and filter, I noticed the car started drinking oil, it's still the same grade full syntechtic 10/30, my car started drinking oil.
At the service station during the change, I took a look underneath the engine and saw oil along the gasket line towards the sump/oil pan.
I never had this problem with my 850 Turbo, R.I.P (rearended last february 2008, and was totalled)
I am taking my car to the station and letting them check this issue.
I think it's the gasket causes this problem. But can't determine this myself, as I had a conversation with the owner of the station, he said, "it's easy to find this out, there's a special diy they add to the oil in order to find the leakage. I know I have a leakage, but not where.
