v70 1998 2.5tdi estate power steering pump
guys,
power steering pump gave up the ghost, about a week or so ago,
i need to source a 8603049 (repl 1pcs 9139565-7) looking for a scrap part really,
is there anyway of overhauling it myself.
or is there another popular car which has the same steering pump that i could just take and bolt into mine
cheers

Hello, For the price of a salvaged part, or even a new one, I don't think you could "overhaul" an old one. There are a dozen or so small floating vanes which ride in precisely machined slots. You can diaassemble yours and take a look. If a cleaning would work, then Happy New Year. How many miles were on your unit when it wet out?

i change the pump yesterday but get noise and smoke
fill up with Pentosin CTF11S green hydraulic fluid,
did the bleed proceedure
a) right lock and hold for 10 seconds
b) let lock and hold for 10 seconds
do ten time move the car and repeat.
Car made loud noise in the steering,
was at miniumum level so topped up to b. car didn't have power steering
in some of the range ...
topped up the fluid to hot level repeated and car is making less noise and there is hydraulic motion in the whole range from right lock to left lock.
Still got noise and started seeing smoke coming from that area of the pump
is this spill oil on top, that is burning off....
is that common, turned off the car, didnt want to pump to overheat
and get damaged ...
