Default v70 2.5t oil pressure light and interior footwell light

hi, i just bought a 1998 volvo v70 2.5t se yesterday, the garage i got it from was is a fair way away, so i'm hoping to sort out the problems somewhere local.

the first issue is that on the way home and again this morning on a short journey the low oil pressure light comes on, it comes on after a few minutes of driving it and stays on for a while, then flicks off and comes back on again! obvioulsy i have checked the dipstick and it says that theres sufficient oil levels. i dont know what elese to do.

the 2nd problem is that the drivers footwell light stays on and will not go off! at the moment i've taken the bulb out of the footwell to save the battery, but i would like it to work properly! does it just need a new fuse??

any replies would be greatly appreciated as i am taking this car on a once in a lifetime trip to portugal (2k miles away) in a few weeks and i REALLY do need some help.

thanks again
george

Welcome to the forum Duffmunster87.

Arethe engine RPM's very low (under 600) or erratic when the light comes on?

How many miles on the car?

I'd say you may have a crossed wire on the light, if all the other lights don't stay on. Check it for a bad home wiring job.

hi, thanks eric, i really appreciate you getting back to me
the rpm's all seem very normal and the car has done 141,166 miles and it has a full service history, so for a volvo with a 2.5 and fshthe miles shouldnt be a problem...

i took it to the local garage yesterday and they didnt seem too impressed with it atall, they recommended taking it back to the garage as its still under warranty, so thursday i'll be driving it back to portsmouth again (from warminster, wilts) so only about an hour and a half... fingers crossed it makes it!
i'll let him know about the lights too, at the moment i've just unplugged the bulb itself to save the batterry but with a warranty they are obliged to fix it! lol

thanks for your help mate

Classic issue, your O-rings in the oil pan have to be replaced and do it ASAP as you're really NOT getting proper oil pressure and you can do permanent damage to your engine
(if not already done)!

The light can be many reasons, replace the O-rings first then worry about the light

The O-rings in the oil pan get old and brittle, slide out of the fitting holeand/orcollapse, leading to uneven oil pressure (to say the least).
You really have to have the pan removed, gunk and crud cleaned out and the 0-ringsreplaced at some point (in the not so distant future, ie: SOON)or you WILL lose the bearings at some point from lack of oil.
Here in the US it's about a $400-$500 job. About 3 to 4 hours at least.
The thing that takes time is removal, cleaning and refitting of the sump/pan, the O-rings themselvesgo in quite easily.

DO NOT DRIVE THIS WAGON VERY LONG OR AT SPEED UNTIL REPAIRED

well thank you very much for your help jrl, once i get it to the garage i'll deffinately mention the o-rings and take it from there, when i spoke to them on the phone they seemed convinced it was a switch (something to do with the pressure sensor) but you seem to know what your talking about, so i'll tell them! lol
luckily its still under warranty so any problems should be fixed swiftly!
thanks again
george

Good luck, doubt it's the switch.
This is common with higher mileage S&V 70s
