V70 2003 Headlight Replacement
in terms of a service manual, try talking to volvo or a dealership and they might be able to get you a volvo issued factory manual. in the way of suggestions, id think that the headlight could be accessed under the hood. in my volvo, the headlight is accessed by popping the hood and removing it from in there. its location should be easy since it should be right where the headlights are located. just pop ur hood and let me know what u see and i might be able to help more.

RE: V70 2003 Headlight Replacement
Replacing either headlamp in a 01 or newer V70 requires the removal of the entire front nose-cone, as 3 of the 5 10mm headlamp fasteners are hidden behind the nose. Don't panic, its not a hard job. Start by locating the torx25 tensioner screws on the front edge of either front wheel well. They'll need to be backed off several turns to release tension on the egde of the nose. Remove the 6 plastic pop-rivet pasteners that stich the top of the nose to the rad support. You'll want to have six new ones on hand, as the old one are destroyed upon removal. Pry off the center bumper/nose moulding (3 pieces) to expose the 13mm mounting bolts and remove them. Put a blanket or such on then ground to protect the nose, and pull it free. If you're just doing one lamp, you can leave one end of the nose in place and pull it off to one side, enough to gain clearnace to the headlamp fasteners. From here, the rest is obvious. Simply remove the fasteners and the headlamp will come free. Good Luck.

If you are replacing the Headlamp assembly then bcmacgregor's instructions are correct. I replaced the right headlamp assembly in March and that is how I did it. The only thing I would add is that if you pry the pop-rivet fastner up with a flat head screwdriver carefully you should be able to reuse them. If this is not your issue and you just need to change the headlight bulb then refer to schnellelv70's link.

I have a ten year-old v70. Headlight bulb replacement is a complete nightmare!!!! Volvo, you should be ashamed of yourselves for this is a safety issue more than anything else. How on earth do you expect a driver to fix this late at night, in the rain and cold, etc, etc? I will never buy a Volvo again.
