I have a 98 AWD V70 with 140K; car will not consistently shift from park to reverse when cold. Usually will when warm. Can take up to 10 minutes in morning or after work to get car into reverse. Can sometimes get it in gear by revving engine a bit, but assume this puts a strain on transmission. Car goes into drive and shifts normally otherwise. Has anyone had a similar experience?

 

Is the fluid full and pink?

 

Yes, I checked the fluid when this started a few weeks ago, and the dealer also checked. The fluid appears to be fine--it's full and pink. I have, as I mentioned in the first post, no trouble with the other gears, and no trouble when the engine has been running during the day. I think the problem must be in the system that sends signals to the xmsn--I assume there is some kind of electromechnaical interface--a solenoid of some kind--that puts the xmsn in gear, and the probelms lies in that interface--which I assume is inside the transmission housing (not like the old GMs where the linkage is on the outside!). The dealers don't do much to repair the transmissions. They just replace.You might want to find a good transmission shop and have them look at it.
