VADIS says I have a 97 V70???

VADIS says I have a 97 V70???
When entering my VIN into VADIS, the software indicates that my V70 is a 97, yet this model doesn't exist for that year. Is VADIS wrong or is the software designed to indicate the year the vehicle was built vice the year is was marketed? thx

In the UK we had V70s in 1997 but I can't find a reference to one for the US market.
The tenth digit of the VIN is the year model code. V is '97, W is '98.
