Default What could it be

I have a 2000 V70XC, And I noticed a few times while backing up and turning the wheel I would hear a loud popping noise. Than It would stop, I was backing up the other day, and it made a horrible noise and the lady parked beside me thought I had hit her. I parked car, we just got it towed home today and had it looked at. Now when you turn the wheel you dont hear the horrible loud noise but a clicking when turning the wheel that sounds like it is coming from the middle front of the car. Also they put it on the rack and said the back tires are not pulling or turning with the front when you turn the wheel. Is that normal? First thought it might be CVJoint, Then was told might be the angle gear, now maybe the lower control arm. I am so confused and I dont have enough money to have all fixed. Any body have any idea what the real problem is???? Thank you.

I am new here too and new to volvo ownership,, but from what I have read,, it might be the bevel gear(angle gear).

Default You could try....

Hello, You can remove the drive shaft. You'll have no AWD but you'll isolate/eliminate the problem. A control are might click or pop but this sounds worse. You can lift one front wheel at a time and listen to each axle at idle while you turn the steering wheel. Kira
