Why do the doors self-lock?

Why do the doors self-lock?
The doors are locking as the 2004 V70 2.4 N/A sits in the garage.
At first I thought I may be hitting the lock button on the remote as it is in my pocket or placing it on the key hook inside the house. But last night I was removing gear & cleaning and I heard the doors lock. I placed the remote on top of the car, nothing touching it.
Short time later the doors locked again.
There is not another Volvo in the neighborhood. Could it be a garage door opener that is triggering my locks?
I see a great risk of being locked out of the car as I am unloading or re-fueling, etc.
Your thoughts please,
Dennis

Yes, our 2001 V70 will automatically relock itself when you open the doors with the remote but don't access the vehicle within a few minutes. My Benz does the same thing. Believe, as Tech indicated, it's a safety feature. You might check your owner's manual.........should provide info about that feature.
