Hi new to this forum and new to Volvo,

I just bought a 96 850 for $500.00 but it has a ton of small electrical issues.
(I will just ask about them one at a time in separate threads)

So if I'm sitting in the car with doors closed, key in or not, the power door lock switch locks and unlocks the doors normally. When I open the door to get out and hit the lock switch, nothing happens (they will unlock but not lock) So I tried to lock the doors first, then open the drivers door which unlocks It, but then I can't push the lock **** down manually. So basically the only way to lock the car is if I stay in it!

Any ideas appreciated.

 

Hi and welcome to the forum.

The car is TRYING to help you avoid locking yourself out of the car. Once out, you CAN lock the car with the key or with the remote. We'll call this first one, operator error.

thanks, I'm used to keyless entry in my truck for the last 7 years, never even thought about using the key lol. Definitely operator error.

 

You can install keyless entry on this car if you'd like. Just a remote and a few relays.
