Default why...? (opening hood)

can anyone tell me why it takes two people to open the hood on my '98 V70? (one on the inside to keep tension on the release cable, and one on the outside to release the safety latch)

Hello, By chance did you mean to ask, "...and one on the outside to push down on the hood because the latching hardware is in such dire need of lubrication it doesn't function smoothly and since he's there he might as well release the safety latch when the hood pops up."? Sounds like a classic case of neglected hood latch to me. Put some rags under it and hose it down with a cleaning solvent until it moves freely and lube it with white grease. Try shooting a little lube into the release cable's sheath from both ends. Take a good look at the hardware involved just in case it breaks, so you know what to do. Kira

Yeah, me to. But that fixes it. You'd think the dealer/mechanic would have done it when working on it. Thanks!

I have the same thing happening on my drivers side latch. The passanger side works great but the drivers side will not release. After a few attempts it will finally release. Guess I need more grease and wd40!!
