100K + servicing question
My 2013 XC60 T6 that I bought from a dealer with 97K a couple of years go (I drive less than 10K/yr) had a 100K service just before I bought it. It was a 1-owner always serviced at the dealer. I'm slowly closing in on 110K and it is time for. major check, but the $1500 price of the standard service listed seems steep for them to CHECK bunches of things and DO what seems like very little. For better or worse, I bought an extended warranty that is still in effect. I do have a mechanic who has lots of Volvo customers. He has asked me to tell him what I need as far as service. The only thing I know I need is attention to a warning light about a stop bulb...!? Anything anybody?
have you looked at the factory service interval chart for your car? That will call out recommended intervals by miles and then there are going to be intervals that are either miles or duration. Most dealers will publish a list of recommended service items appropriate to your model/year. You need to read through that to see what's on the factory check list vs a dealer recommended item. At 10 years you should be looking at all the fluids and when they were last serviced. Coolant, Brakes, Transmission, Power steering etc. There isn't much at 110K but the 120K does include replacing the filters (cabin, air, fuel etc). There's a lot of drive train checks done at 10K, check for leaks etc which means put the car on a lift, go through a 100 point check list that can take an hour or two of shop time. For example, some shops may recommend a tranmission flush etc in their price but that may not be on the factory chart so best to get a list of what the dealer is proposing to do.
