Default To Insure or Not to Insure...

Hey Guys,

I'm new to the world of Volvo ownership, but absolutely smitten with my 2009 XC60 T6 AWD. I traded in my old X5 for this car and will never look back. This car is understated and oh so classy.

The dealership that I bought it from has offered me some warranty packages for up to 4 years that will cover any repairs that need to be done. After spending MANY thousands of dollars on the X5 anytime that anything went wrong (which it did frequently) I was thinking this might be useful.

Sooo, my question is... What is everyone's experience with breakdowns/repairs. Any major common problems? And what were the approximate repair costs..

Any information would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Kirby

definitelydefinitelydefinitelyWell first, im pretty sure you dont have a T6 becuase in 2009 they started using the new style I6 engines and a turbo was no longer an option for the XC90.
I always recommend getting an extended warranty any chance that you get. Its always better because newer Volvos can be expensive. The main problem that I see with those XC90s are the oil consumption (depending on where you live and what engine code you have). thats something you are gonna want an extended warranty for. After that you just have to worry about normal things which are control arm bushings, upper strut mounts, brakes, things of that nature

Hey Damien,

Thanks for your quick reply and advice...
I most definitely do have a T6, I enjoy that little hit of turbo every time I put my foot down. Think you misread, I have the XC 60 not the 90... ;-)

that is exactly what I did. the oil consumption is still a problem depending on what engine and where you live. so once again i highly recommend getting an extended warranty.

It also depends on the extended warranty companies and the contact. Some are difficult to work with and don't cover much. Volvo CPO is the best and easiest to work with.

i say insure it. Since Volvos have a history of breakdowns ( not as much as your X5) you should insure it. If it was a Toyota then there is not need to . When i purchased my 2006 S80 it was CPO. Now the CPO is expired but i never had to use it. The car was originally in excellent shape and i did all the maintenance and fluids.
Also make sure what is the warranty company. i prefer dealer warranty ( aftermarket) but they are expensive tho
