Default Wireless phone charger

I have a 2021 xc60. It has the built in phone charger. I just bought a new iPhone 12 and can’t seem to get the two to work together.
The charger and phone seem to connect for a second but then the Volvo shows an error message that goes something like ‘Qi charger not working remove objects from the area and try again’.

they should be compatible...anybody else have an issue?

The new iPhones have a known issue with some third party wireless chargers. They are supposed to work, but sometimes do not.

I just picked up my 2021 XC90 - it is having the same problem with my iPhone 12 Pro. Dealer is looking into it.

Same problem. My husbands iPhone 11 works fine. So it’s clearly an iPhone 12 issue. I have the 12 pro but it seems to be @ny version of the 12. However, we recently took an 11 hour road trip, listened to audible over wireless air play (I bought an wireless adapter on Amazon for airplay) and only used 15% of the battery. We listened to Audible the whole time, a couple phone calls and several text messages. I was really impressed with the battery on that phone.

I have the same issue. New 2021 XC60, same error message with my iPhone and the Qi pad. Very frustrating. Please do let me know if you find any fixes.

Several posts have been placed on the Apple forum. The latest was this

“I was just on the phone with my Volvo dealer and they told me that they had been in contact with Volvo about it. Volvo indicated that there will be a software update in the 2nd quarter of 2021. You will have to book an appointment at the dealer to install the update. He told me to call them around Easter because that’s around the time where they expect the software to be released.”

and before that one user reference an article in Swedish which stated the same thing.

let’s hope this is true.

I just read on the Volvo download site that a system software release for April includes a fix for the iPhone 12 wireless charging issue
I hope they will download to the car this month without having to go into the dealership as I was just there last month for regular maintenance and won’t need to go in again for a while. I did notice a change last month with the camera display showing yellow path lines and I can only attribute those to a wireless download to the car.

Updates from and including April 2021

  • For XC40: Improved software for better driveability at start-up.
  • For XC40 Twin Engine/Recharge Plug-in Hybrid: Improved fan sound.
  • Problem with wireless charging for iPhone 12 resolved.
  • Improvement of the engine management system's optimisation.
  • Improvement of the transmission system's optimisation.

Updates from and including March 2021

VNC (Vehicle Noise Compensation) for Harman Kardon premium audio has been given a smoother optimisation.

Applies to the following models:
  • XC60/XC90, S90/V90, S60/V60 from and including model year 2019.
  • XC40 from and including model year late 2018.
Improvement of the engine management system's optimisation.

Applies to the following models:
  • S90/V90 from and including model year late 2017, up to and including model year 2019.
  • All car models, except XC40, from and including model year late 2021.
  • XC60/XC90, S90/V90 from and including model year 2018.
  • S60/V60 from and including model year 2019.
  • XC40 from and including model year late 2018.
Improvement of the transmission system's optimisation.
  • Applies to Europe and Japan: All car models, except XC40, from and including model year late 2021.
Reduced echo on the receiver side during phone calls.

Applies to the following models:
  • XC60/XC90 from and including model year 2019 to model year 2020.
  • S60/V60 from and including model year late 2019.

I just bought a CPO 2021 XC Inscription and have the exact same wireless charging issue with an iPhone 13 ProMax. Same error message exactly!
