I’m after a bit of advice please. I have a 2017 XC60 (2nd gen) which has some cosmetic damage to the A/C climate heater control panel. I made a stupid mistake and hung an air freshener via a mobile phone holder attached to the heating vents, which then covered the telephone buttons. Unfortunately after a week or so, the paint on the buttons started to bubble and I’m now left with a control unit that looks unsightly.
Everything works as expected but this is a lease car and I need to return it this month. I’m worried that they are going to hammer me for the damage and so I’m looking for options.
I’ve been to my Volvo dealership where the car is serviced but they’re quoting me £1100 for a replacement unit, They also told me that I can’t get a second hand unit as that won’t work because of “software”.
Any suggestions? Does anyone know whether the buttons can be replaced without actually changing the whole unit? I could easily buy a second hand model from eBay but if the buttons can’t be swapped then there’s no point me doing that.
I’ve included a photo of what it looks like. Please excuse all the white bits on the photo, the camera has picked these up and it looks worse than it actually is. But In the photo you can see the damage to the telephone buttons and a little bit of damage to the ‘auto’ button.
Any suggestions welcomed….I'm kicking myself for such a schoolboy error.
Some of the buttons on the perimeter are available - but not the number buttons in the middle. It is true the " software" in a used module may not work in your car. A company such as xemodex in Canada can "program" a used climate module to work in your car.
