Hi,

I just got my 2009 XC60 T6 serviced and the mechanic told me that I needed to replace all 4 tyres, although only 2 showed signs of wear. Apparently Volvo recommend that all 4 tyres are replaced at once, otherwise I will experience drive train failure.....??

Is this a bluff, or have people witnessed this? Do all 4 tyres need to be the same brand/tread? I understand same axle they do, but all 4??

If the car is all wheel drive, they always recommend replacing all 4 tires at the same time. If there is a significant difference in the rotational circumference of tires with AWD, there is additional drivetrain stress. Having the same brand/tread design is usually more of a safety issue with rain, snow or ice, or a noise/comfort issue if the designs are drastically different.
