My 05 xc70 is new to me and my first Volvo. It drives very nice. Shifts wonderfully too. But when driving, at speeds above 40mph, a whirring or howling noise is coming from what sounds like the left front. It stops when coasting and no noise at heavy acceleration. But when maintaining speed and at gentle acceleration it can be heard. It would be ok and I would be happy if someone just told me it is a normal volvo sound.

I just went out on a short trip and tried to record the sound, but it wasn't wanting to be heard. I will try again tomorrow on my way to work and will find a way to post a link.
