I was just quoted over 600 bones to replace my parking brake cables (2?). won't pass NY inspection until fixed. I am quite handy and have experience with brakes but have never touched the E-brake cables. is this a tough job? any step by step on this job out there?

 

I stumbled across your post when browsing the internet looking for some information on the replacement cost of the handbrake cables in my C70 I.

I recently let my dealer handle this, and he charged me some 800 euros: 150 euros for the cables (2 cables) and 650 euros for the work. He said the mechanics had to work about 7h to fix this: the handbrake cables in the C70 I seem to be extrrrrrrremely difficult to reach, they had to take the whole car apart, so to speak.
I found it difficult to believe and thought they must have made some mistake, but the more info I gather, the more it seems they were right.

I can imagine it's the same story for your XC70...
