Default 2003 XC70 with 178K miles - keep it?

I've had this vehicle since it showed 3.5 miles on the odometer. It's been a good car but not without some bumps along the way. I've had to replace a failed turbo and of course, like many other XC70s, it eats headlight bulbs as if they were candy. A few other electrical issues such as a failed brake light relay and a couple burned out dashboard lights but it's been great with brakes, tires, etc. Thanks to regular washing and waxing, the body and trim look as if the car is almost new.

I'm at the point where the mileage is making me nervous. Is it logical to feel that as long as I perform proper maintenance (including the big ticket items like timing belt and tensioners), the engine and transmission should last another 50k miles or am I kidding myself?

I am toying with the idea of selling it while it still has some value and getting a newer XC70 with under 50 or 60k miles. My wife thinks we should drive it until the engine blows up. Any opinions?

I just bought one with 171k. Had to put in money like timing belt, soon ETM. Hoping it is an investment. How patient are you?

My guess is, if the car has been treated the way you say, it should last well over 50k more miles.

You know this car's history and how it's been treated. I'm not so sure it's wise to trade to a vehicle whose history would be questionable.

My 98 xc70awd has 198k and just a number of minor things wrong as happens with old high mileage vehicles. Engine and drivetrain are strong as ever. I'm going for 300k. We will see. At these mileages, it is cheaper to drop a $1000 here and there than sell/trade and getting almost nothing for it. JMHO. Good luck!
