Lightbulb 2005 transmission cooler failure

Hi there all, ..So....my daughters 2005 xc70 has had a failure in the transmission cooler, question is, Does this model have a external c
cooler or is it built into the radiator. Easiest to replace the radiator ? or.........
Any help/suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks

Transmission cooler is built into the radiator. So if you have a failure of the cooler - what does that mean? Is there pink stuff in the radiator coolant bottle?

If so that can be very bad because the pressure in the cooling system can be greater than the pressure in the transmission cooler, allowing water(antifreeze) into the transmission. Water is not a good lubricant.

are you planning to do the work yourself? If so, you can google how to do a true flush which involves opening the lines to/from the cooler and run hoses to two buckets - one for the drain one for the fill or use a fill funnel to pour in the new fluid. idea is to use clear hose to monitor the output, Start the engine to let the transmission pump out the old and suck in the new until you have clean fluid coming out. Plan on using 12 quarts. Don't do a drain/fill as that will leave some residual contamination. Say your car holds 7 quarts and a drain will drop out 4. After the first drain you are 60% clean, the next drain you get 60% of the 40% so you'd be 80-85% clean, the third gets you 60% of the 15% so you'd be about 90% clean (you get the point...)

2005 V7o base non turbo. Replacing radiator with a junk yard one. I tried adding water before connecting transmission lines to radiator to make sure the radiator doesn't leak and water came out the lower transmission connection at radiator. Does this mean the radiator is bad? Seems like it to me.
