I just bought a 98 v70 xc and the front wheels are making a shuddering sound. At first it only occurred when turning, but now it happens when driving on inclines and starting to occur on flat surfaces as well. Does this sound like an axle issue or something else?

Also, each bump is really felt! Would this mean that shocks and struts would need to be replaced? I am not sure they were replaced, the car is at 128K.

Any feedback would be great!

Jack up the front end. Support on jackstands. Inspect. Grab the tire top & bottom, wiggle to see if the ball joint shows play. Grab the tire front & rear, wiggle to see if the tie rod end shows play. Rotate the tires by hand to check for axle and bearing play/wear.
