To buy or not to Buy... 2003 XC70
Hi everyone
New to the forum and wanted some advice on a used Volvo XC70 i have found. Car detail are:
2003 XC70
Mileage: 190,500
Body: Overall good condition with a few (like 4 little scratches)
Interior: Is in great condition, rear seats look new driver seat looks like it only has 50,000 miles on it. Arm rest is in great shape. No normal signs of wear at all.
Price: 3950.00 well under Edmund.com for a dealer as well as private party. Thousands less then Kbb.com and Nada.com.
Drives very well no transmission slippage or hesitation. Engine seems smooth did not notice any leaks or smoke out of the exhaust.
I am weary of the mileage it has only had two owners. One was a lease for almost 3yrs. The second owned for 5 years and put 140,000 miles on it lived in West Virgina. (did not see excesses salt damage on the undercarriage).
So is it a good deal or am I about to get ripped off?

From what I've seen, it's about $2000-3000 lower that most that age. Not bad for mileage at that age and # of owners.
There may be prop shaft problems, but that's not that big of a deal.
I'd grab it.
Get a helper to look at it with you or take it to a garage you're familiar with to look closer.

The deal just seemed to good. Do you know about how much a mechanic will charge for a pre-purchase check on a car? Or better yet a good mechanic in Raleigh NC.

You should be able to find a good one in Raleigh.
http://www.cartalk.com/content/mechx/ is one place to start if you haven't started looking yet.
1 hour@ $6o should get you some good information.
I gave 4 for my 2001 V70 last year w/175,000.

Those miles are not bad IMHO. 257k on my 960 and still going strong. 100k on my XC90 with no problems. Just make sure they have the receipts for all maintenance done. If it has only 2 owners someone should b able to provide them. Also, do a Carfax check. They aren't always 100% accurate but it is worth a shot on top of the mechanic review.
