hi,
im looking to add to my Volvo Family . I like the Volvo Xc70 and i am thinking of buying one used..im looking at the years 2001-2005,and i have a few ?s,are they a good to buy? Im worried about the 5 cyl engines and are they all turbos? how are Volvo turbos..do they have a lot of issues? anything else about the Xc70?? thanks!

 

The B524/54T engines in these vehicles are pretty solid, I don't hear much chatter about problems with them. Regular oil changes are your friend as always, 3-5K depending on conditions, many cars have the service interval set to 7.5K and do the oil change then but this is too long unless you really are doing all highway driving. Check the service history and under the oil filler cap, if the varnishing is really bad you might consider a different vehicle.

Main problems seem to be with the drivetrain, pre -03 transmissions are supposedly less reliable. This could be because they have a different AWD system that puts more strain on the drivetrain, from -03 onwards there is a Haldex AWD system. Other than that check regular stuff, the front suspension is prone to wear as are the engine mounts. Good luck.

 

The newer ones is what i would recomend. 04-06 are solid. Not all v70's are turbo, but all xc70's are. If you can find one, pick up a v70r. Very solid car and looks great
